Grades K – 3 are working on illustrating haikus they have written in language arts. Drawings and paintings are being made and then scanned into a computer for printing with the poems into a book format. Students are learning basic color theory and composition, along with how to follow directions and spatial aptitude. Due date for completion: before winter break.
Grades 4 – 8 are creating original cigar boxes based on the designs of antique cigar boxes. The boxes will depict historical scenes from the eras being studied in their social studies/history classes. Drawings and paintings are being made and then scanned into a computer for printing onto paper that will be applied to actual wooden cigar boxes. Students are learning scale and composition, along with art history. Completed works will be on display in the auditorium after an initial oral presentation given in social studies class. (Presentations will be video-taped for sharing with other classes and parents. Watch for them on this website after the new year.) Due date for completion: before winter break.
Grades 9 – 12 are designing blueprints for a school of the future. In collaboration with the mathematics and science programs, plus historical references of building design, original drawings and sketches are being made that will be transposed into a blue print format with the use of architectural software. Students are learning dimensions, spatial concepts, strength of materials, and school layouts, among other things. Completed works will be on display in the auditorium after an initial audio-visual presentation given in art class. (Presentations will be available for viewing on this website after the new year.) Due date for completion: before winter break.

Grades K - 3: Bring in old large shirts or aprons to protect clothes from paint materials.
Grades 4 - 8: Permission slips are due for trip to the historical society on Thursday.
Slips may be faxed to school office.
Grades 9 - 12: Local architect is visiting class on Wednesday.
Prepare a list of three to five questons to ask during visit.
